Fellowship Overview

Great Zimbabwe Montessori, in partnership with Montessori on Wheels (MOW), The Young Montessorian, and Seed of Life, is excited to launch the call for applications for the BETTER IS POSSIBLE (BIP) Fellowship 2024. Zimbabwean educators from all backgrounds, pedagogical training, and schools of thought are encouraged to apply for this inaugural cohort of the BIP Fellowship, which will see a select group of educators go on a journey of reimagining Montessori education in Zimbabwe through joy.

Why BIP?

The power of onomatopoeia - the ‘BIP’ sound resembles that of a car horn as often characterized in children’s books. The beep sound serves as a call to consciousness, drawing attention to the newness of perspective in learning that we are excited to share. Better is possible is an affirmation of the hope we place in education to transform the lives of learners and educators alike. We do not seek to impose our pedagogy on an existing context but to integrate our diverse approaches to achieve more cohesive and transformative pathways for educating the next generation of learners in Zimbabwe.

How We Do It

The BIP Fellowship emphasises the power of joy in the classroom as a transformative force necessary for a thriving learning environment – both for the learner and the educator. For us, joy is both a means and an end to positive educational outcomes.

We believe that IF we bring diverse educators in Zimbabwe to a holistic understanding of Montessori education that is culturally relevant in the Zimbabwean setting AND we centre joy in the learning experience for educators and learners THEN learners and educators will achieve better learning outcomes. The BIP Fellows (Bippers) will each be assigned a mentor working in various Montessori spaces across the world and they will go on a journey of discovering how best they can cultivate new ways of thinking about education and its impact on the self, communities, and the world.

This fellowship does not seek to uproot the tried and tested educational pedagogy present in Zimbabwean institutions or to replace traditional approaches to learning but aims to equip them with a renewed understanding of the power of their work in the lives of their learners and their upward trajectory of achievement.

Ready for the challenge?

Zimbabwe boasts of one of the highest literacy rates in the world and rightfully so. We believe it can be ever better all while using joy as a springboard.

If you’re up for the challenge of thinking broader and more expansively about the power of joy in education, dare to take this journey with us! If better is possible, why not reach for it?
